  1. Assist in preparation of the client’s CAFR, annual financial statements, notes, schedules, and other supplementary information in accordance with GAAP. The statements should meet or exceed the standards of the Governmental Finance Officer’s Association (GFOA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
  2. Audit transactions, reports, and reconcile subsidiary reports to monthly financial statements. Make correcting entries as necessary.
  3. Maintain client's grant files. Complete and submit grant billings on a timely basis, respond to auditors, and assist grant recipients with record keeping. Reconcile monthly grant billing to support the client’s accounts receivable system.
  4. Manage grant and contract budgets to ensure revenue and/or expenditures do not exceed grant/contract allowances. Ensure client is reimbursed for grant and contract work in a timely manner.
  5. Communicate with other departments and outside agencies as needed to resolve problems, provide and seek information, explain policies or procedures and discuss anomalies.
  6. Provide input and make recommendations on adequate internal controls and protection from financial exposure.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Washington State Budget and Accounting Reporting System (BARS) for municipalities.
  • Knowledge of automated ERP systems. GEMS financial system experience desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively with other client departments and with State Auditor’s office.
  • Ability to operate calculators, display station and personal computer proficiently.
  • Ability to set priorities and to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, makes decisions and follow through on situations requiring evaluation and judgment.
  • Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely-related field plus three (3) years accounting experience at the level of Accountant, preferably in a municipal government environment or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Previous experience in preparing municipal comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFRs) is highly desirable. Possession of professional certification such as CPA, CMA, etc. preferred.

Rate: $30.70 per hour
