Minority Business Certification Manager

Description
Work to certify minority owned business and corporate members in a 7 state region:Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming for a non-profit organization. The organization works to expand business opportunities for minority-owned companies in an effort to build a stronger, more equitable society by supporting and promoting minority business development.

The strategy of the client strategy is to engage in the business of aiding the growth and development of ethnic-minority-owned business through facilitating the purchase of goods and services, by public and private purchasing entities.

 
The certified minority owned businesses will act as suppliers to corporate members in the region and nationally. Corporate members include Fortune 500 companies.
Duties:
Certify Minority business and new Corporate Members
- review tax returns and financial documents of candidates
- review business incorporation paper work and bylaws
- review any ownership clauses
- investigate discrepancies in ownership
- perform site visits during certification process
- work with partners in different states that help with certifying businesses in their region.
-do an assessment of whether to certify the firm
- present firms that are ready to be certified to board of directors for approval.
Maintain certified businesses profiles
update mailing list
backup DB
do kickoff training and webinars to certified businesses
do yearly re-certifications
Provide customer service and be public relations interface to prospective minority owned firms, private and public organizations wishing information on events or certification processes as well as corporate members.
Represent organization at Regional Contracting Forums
Notify certified firms of possible upcoming business opportunities with Corporate Members
Work with Corporate Members to identify business opportunities for certified firms and communicate those to certified firms.
Keep track of business opportunities that certified businesses obtain.
Send out surveys to certified firms and corporate members
Generate reports that provide information on business engagements that have been awarded to certified firms by corporate members
Generate reports on growth and gaps in targeted business clusters.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education
    a) College degree preferred
    b) Or, 5 years related experience in customer service & project planning.


    2. Experience
    Require exceptional customer service experience on the phone and in person.  Require a working knowledge of  Microsoft Suite of Office Software. Public speaking and presentation skills are required.  Require the ability to learn client proprietary software.  Project management/Organizational skills required.

    Advanced Skills in Microsoft Excel
    Intermediate skills in Microsoft Power Point


    3. Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

         
    Must be organized, time management capable, able to multitask, work within a team environment, and communicate concisely and effectively both verbally and in writing.  

    This position requires the ability to drive a company vehicle safely throughout the region therefore must be able to provide drivers license.  Possess the ability to work collaboratively with different teams and committees. Professional/Business appearance is required at all times.

              Work safely at all times independently and around other team members.

Desired Skills:

Ability to read corporate finance documents (tax returns) , P&L statements, articles of incorporation, and ownership clauses.
