Position Summary The Payroll Clerk is responsible for ensuring client employees are paid accurately and on time in accordance with client policies, applicable labor contracts, and local, state, and federal laws. This role ensures compliance with payroll laws and regulations, including tax withholding requirements, and requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Auditing & Verification: Audit documents received from the Human Resources (HR) Department, including Personnel Action forms (PAs), PREPs, 457 Deferred Compensation changes, benefit changes, and address changes. Audit direct deposit, Pay Card information, W-4 forms, and other employee-related payroll changes.
- Payroll Processing & Adjustments: Process payroll transactions, maintain payroll records, and review/validate the accuracy of information entered into PeopleSoft Human Capital Management by the HR and Payroll teams.
- Complex Calculations: Calculate and determine retroactive payments for client employees, which includes the complex evaluation of pay rate changes occurring on multiple effective dates, ensuring accuracy based on provided information.
- Reporting & Queries: Develop and run queries in PeopleSoft. Prepare reports for the Washington Employment Security Department (Employment Statistics Survey), Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (New Hire Reporting), and the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
- Reconciliation & Quality Control: Perform variance comparisons and other checks and balances to verify the accuracy of payroll adjustments before the bi-weekly payroll is finalized.
- Employee Support & Administration: Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, document client payroll procedures, and assist in training new staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of payroll or accounting experience.
- Knowledge of payroll processes and compliance requirements.
- Experience with HRIS systems, preferably PeopleSoft.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with union or public sector payroll.
- Familiarity with Washington State payroll regulations.
Duration: 3-6 months
Pay: $34-$36 per hour
